Chapter 25

Cookie and Amil

Shanequa woke up realizing she had fallen asleep underneath the Fifth Street Bridge. Her body was cramped and sore from lying on the concrete all night. She was supposed to be gathering her thoughts, but she accidentally dozed off. Her clothes were a bit smelly, but it wasn’t like the sent she smelled in the air. As she looked around, she noticed two bodies have washed up along the edge of the canal. Someone had put buckshot’s between their eyes and chest.

Shanequa screamed and started walking backwards. Then she noticed something about them. It was Amil and cookie; two of the hoes she had just met. Sapphire wasn’t with them and she feared whoever did this, would come after her too.

It appeared to be a gang hit. But knowing Busta and his determination to find her, the nigga probably blasted them himself with his Glock to send a message. She figured that the hoes probably denied seeing her and tried covering for her ass. Busta may have gotten mad and busted a cap in them, and then put their bodies out with the trash.

The timing couldn’t be worse. It was a blazing ninety-five degrees out and the smell of raw bloody flesh is worse than smelling dried up fish washed up on the shore. Flies, maggots, and other bugs had already started feasting on their bodies. The stench could be smelled from miles away, but no one knew the proximity of the smell.

Something crawled behind her. Shanequa was terrified, so she pulled out her a 9 mm. She pointed it in the direction of something that looked like it belonged in the movie Dawn of the Dead. Its teeth were hanging out of its mouth and the tan, scrawny body was malnutrition. It stumbled a little bit.

“Whoa, big guy! I’m backing off,” Shanequa said out loud to what she assumed to be a homeless dog. He could crunch on all the bones he wanted as long as he didn’t crunch on hers.

Sirens blared through the humid air. A slight warm breeze overtook the sensation Shanequa was having of passing the fuck out. The closer the sirens got, her ears rang to a screeching alarm. “I got to get out of here,” she told herself.

They can’t find me here, she thought, glaring at the dog and then back at the two ladies she just met.

“Five, four, three…deep breath…breathe, bitch,” she told herself trying to remove herself from the situation.

Hunger was getting the best of her. Maybe she could sneak in the back door of one of the shops on Greene Street or Broad Street and grab a bite to eat without anyone knowing it. There were halfway houses for battered woman in the area; maybe she could stay there until she found a way to get back to Atlanta.

Street life wasn’t for her and she definitely wasn’t a fan of prostitution. At times, she was okay turning a trick for a John with real money of at least $500 or more; but she came to realize that not everybody could be a street hoe.
